116 निःसाध्वसत्वं नाम साध्वसाभावः । अभावश्च प्रतियोगिनिरूपणाधीननिरूपण इति साध्वसस्वरूपं कथयति मनःक्षोभपूर्वक इति ।

अथौदार्यम्—

औदार्यं प्रश्रयः सदा ॥ ३६ ॥

यथा—632

दिअहं अडुडूंकिआए सअलं काऊण गेहवावारं ।
गरुए वि मण्णुदुक्खे मरिमो पाअंतसुत्ताए ॥633

यथा वा—भ्रूभङ्गे सहसोद्गते634 इत्यादि ।

दिअहं अडुडूंकिआए ।

दिवसमडुडूत्कृतया 635सकलं कृत्वा गेहव्यापारम् ।
गुरावपि मन्तुदुःखे स्मरामः पादान्तसुप्तायाः ॥
डुडूत्कारो रणरणिका । मन्तुः कोपविशेषः ।

अथ धैर्यम्—

चापलाविहता धैर्यं चिद्वृत्तिरविकत्थना ।

चापलानुपहता मनोवृत्तिरात्मगुणानामनाख्यायिका धैर्यमिति । यथा मालतीमाधवे—

ज्वलतु गगने रात्रौ रात्रावखण्डकलः शशी दहतु मदनः किं वा मृत्योः परेण विधास्यति ।
मम तु दयितः श्लाघ्यस्तातो जनन्यमलान्वया कुलममलिनं न त्वेवायं जनो न च जीवितम् ॥636

  1. N.S.P. reads diahaṃ khu dukkhiāe (divasaṃ khalu duḥkhitāyāḥ) and at the end bharimo pāantasuttassa (bharimā pādānte suptasya). The reading given here based on A.T.A. is confirmed by Bh. Nṛ. See Laghuṭikā.

    Gaṅgādharabhaṭṭa, the commentator on the Gāthāsaptaśati (N.S.P. ed., Kāvyamālā 21) reads diahaṃ khuḍakkiāe, and pādānta-suptasya at the end, and explains the verse thus: khuḍakkiā= roṣamūkā. guruke manyuduḥkhe divasaṃ vyāpya gehavyāpāraṃ kṛtvā roṣamūkāyās tasyāh pādāntaśayanaṃ smarāmaḥ iti saṃbandhaḥ. (page 75).

    Bhaṭṭanṛsiṃha’s aḍuḍūtkṛtayā and pādāntasuptāyāḥ seem to me to be more suitable and to yield a better interpretation. I do not, however, find ḍuḍutkāra in the sense of raṇaraṇikā in the Prakrit dictionaries available to me. I feel Bh. Nṛ. must have had access to genuine sources for the reading and the interpretation.

  4. tayā is found in T.MS. and it seems to be also in Gr.MS., M.G.T. and Tri.MS. do not read tayā. Tri.MS. gives sakalaṃ which is also seen in N.S.P.

    aḍuḍūtkṛtayā is clear in T.MS. and Gr.MS. Tri.MS. reads dutkṛtayā, and in M.G.T. this portion is corrupt. See Note 186 to Daśarūpāvaloka.
