Encoding Description

Editorial Description

The Tattvasaṅgrahapañjikā has been structured in three (sometimes four), div-levels:

  • 2 main parts encoded as: div n="..." type="part" subtype="bhaga".
  • 26 chapters encoded as: div n="... " type="chapter".
  • Following Krishnamacharya's edition, chapters 7 and 19 have been furthermore divided in subchapters, encoded as: div n="...-..." type="subchapter", etc.
  • The lowest div-level encloses a verse and its corresponding commentary (or a group of verses that is commented in the same passage). In this case the div-number refers to the verses it encloses, e.g. div n="1_2_3_4_5_6"

Sometimes a chapter in the Tattvasaṅgrahapañjikā has two trailers, one at the end of the mūla-text (base-text), and one at the end of the commentary. The first one was encoded as a trailer element within the lg; the second one as trailer to the div.

For display purposes, heads had been added to all chapters and subchapters and enclosed in supplied.

In the source file, there were three types of line breaks: returns (and possible surrounding space), hyphens+returns, and em dash+returns. These were replaced with lb-elements. I didn't check whether the source was consequent in this respect. The ed-attribute "k" refers to Krishnamacharya's edition.

Double quotes were encoded as quote-elements. Single quotes were encoded as q-elements.

List of abbreviations used in this file:

  • ts = Tattvasaṅgraha
  • tsp = Tattvasaṅgrahapañjikā

Krishnamacharya's 1926 edition has a list of corrections at the end of each volume.These corrections have been encoded with the tags choice, sic, and corr. Page and line numbers of each correction are given in the n-attribute. Thus, choice n="43-7" refers to the correction on page 43, line 7. There are some occasions where multiple corrections occur in the same line and are therefore distinguished as choice n="129-19-a" and choice n="120-19-b".

The following corrections were not necessary since the print edition had already been corrected:

  • 79-17,
  • 358-5,
  • 547-23.

In several cases the line numbers in the list of corrections do not correspond to the line number in the edition. They were corrected as follows:

  • 157-25 --> 157-26,
  • 295-11 --> 295-13,
  • 550-23 --> 550-5,
  • 580-25 --> 550-24.

The following errors are not found in the locations given in the list of corrections:

  • 105-23,
  • 112-19,
  • 369-18.

In the following cases the correction input by SARIT differs from the one listed in the book:

  • 580-27: corrected to यद्यत् ज्ञा instead of यद्यत् ज्ञान to avoid the dittography.
  • 581-28: corrected to बिम्बज्ञानं न स्व instead of बिम्बज्ञानं न सु (the list of corrections displays the passage to be corrected as बिम्बज्ञानं सु, but the in the book it reads बिम्बज्ञानं स्व. Hence we just added the न.
