Editorial Description

The print edition has two types of footnotes: notes to the texts (labelled with special symbols such as crosses and asterisks) and notes for the critical apparatus (labelled with arabic numbers). The footnote references to the critical apparatus were encoded as anchor-elements. The critical notes were encoded as app-elements and are located in the back-element of this file. The notes that do not belong to the critical apparatus were encoded as note and are located were the footnote reference appears in the print edition. In vol. 2 the Nyāyasaurabhaṭippaṇī by K. S. Varadacharya is shorter and appeared in footnotes. Therefore it was also wrapped in note-elements.

In many cases the symbol (or number) used in the footnote reference does not match the symbol with which the note is labelled. These instances have been corrected.

Some notes have no corresponding footnote reference in the print edition. These notes were either manually relocated or left at the end of the page were they appear. If this is the case of a critical note, the from- and to- attributes of the app-element were left empty.

Footnote references (i.e. superscript numbers) that had no corresponding note were enclosed in sic.

A few anchor elements were supplied by the encoder.
