Encoding Description
The printed edition from which this e-text was transcribed was written in the Devanāgarī script. The electronic text below is in a lossless transliteration using the Latin alphabet. The transliteration scheme used is the IAST (The International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration). IAST differs in small ways from ISO 15919, but is preferred by most working Sanskrit scholars. Conversion of this file to ISO 15919 can be achieved by performing the following replacements throughout the file: ṛ -> r̥ and ṁ -> ṃ
Text division is as Devanāgarī ("ityevam" not "ity evam".)
Initial vowel elision for avagraha is reversed and marked with a + sign: e.g., "prathamo+adhyāyaḥ"
Editorial Description
The e-text was typed by Suryamsu Ray personally from a reprint of the Lucknow
1971 edition. He notes: Only one edition I could buy myself from
Munshiram Manoharlal Publisher Private Ltd., which is in Hindi with Hindi
commentary as follows: " I
wanted to have at least one more version of the text for comparison wherever
doubts arose. Many Ashrams publish ancient texts for their own need. From a
religious mela I procured one, whose printing and exposition is less that
desirable. However, it served me the purpose of pinpointing the errors, for
which I apply mainly chhandas and usual philosophical word combinations and
phrases.
