rāga ādiryeṣāṃ te rāgādayaḥ| ādiśabdena dveṣalobhādiparigrahaḥ| rujantīti rogāḥ| dehamanasī santāpayantītyarthaḥ| nanu manaḥsthitatvānmana eva te rujantīti vaktuṃ yuktam| maivam| dehamanolakṣaṇayorvastunorādhārādheyabhāvena sthitatvāddvayorapi santāpo yuktaḥ| yathā ādheyenāyogolakena santaptena tadādhārasya kaṭāhādeḥ santāpaḥ| ādhāreṇa ca kaṭāhādinā santaptenādheyasya ghṛtādeḥ santāpaḥ| tadevaṃ rāgādayo dvayaṃ rujantīti nyāyyametat| tathā satatānuṣaktāḥ sarvakālaṃ prasṛtāḥ, sahajā ityarthaḥ| aśeṣakāyaprasṛtā aśeṣaścāsau kāyaścāśeṣakāyaḥ| tatra prasṛtā anugatāḥ| yadvā+aśeṣāśca te kāyāścāśeṣakāyāḥ| sarvāṇi śarīrāṇi gajaturagoragādisambamdhīni tāni prakarṣeṇa sṛtā gatāḥ| tathā aśeṣāḥ na vidyate śeṣo yeṣāṃ te+aśeṣāḥ sarve samūlāḥ| sabījā ityarthaḥ| tathautsukyamohāratidāḥ| autsukyaṃ viṣayotkaṇṭhā gato+abhilāṣaḥ| mohaḥ kāryākāryānabhijñatvam| aratiranavasthitiḥ| sthānāsanādiṣu| autsukyaṃ ca mohaścāratiśca tā dadati ye rāgādayasta evam| tānevaṃvidhān yo bhagavān jaghāna tasmai tathābhūtāyāpūrvavaidyāya namo+astu| taṃ pūjayāmītyarthaḥ| ata evāsāvapūrva āścaryabhūto vaidyaḥ| anyo hi yo vaidyaḥ sa jvarādīnapyacirotthitān rogānetadviśeṣaṇaiuraparāmṛṣṭānna tathā hartuṃ samarthaḥ| kimuta rāgādīnasādhyalakṣaṇalakṣitān| tathā cāsādhyalakṣaṇam|(asminnevādhyāye ślo. 32)"anupakrama eva syāt sthito+atyantaviparyaye| autsukyamohāratikṛd" iti| yadvā na vidyate pūrvo yasmādasāvapūrvaḥ| pūrvebhyaḥ prathama ityarthaḥ| apūrvaścāsau vaidyo+apūrvavaidya ityarthaḥ| evaṃvidhaṃ cābhimatanamaskāraślokaṃ viracayan granthakṛdgranthasya rogopaśāṃtiḥ prayojanamiti pratipādayati| tathā cāha carakamuniḥ (sū. a. 1|52)"dhātusāmyakriyā coktā tantrasyāsya prayojanam" iti| evaṃ ca dhātusāmyena prayojanena prayojanavadidaṃ tantram| tathā tatpāṭhāttadarthāvabodhāttadvidhyanuṣṭhānācca ārogyākhyasyopeyasya tathābhimatasyāyuṣaḥ parasya puruṣārthasya mokṣākhyasya ca paramārthata idameva tantramupāyaḥ| asmāccopāyopeyalakṣaṇasambadhāt sambandhavadidaṃ tantram| tathā hetuliṅgauṣadhyākhyaskandhatrayamasyābhidheyaṃ tenābhidheyenābhidheyavattantram| evaṃ ca granthakṛtātra prayojanasanbandhābhidheyā yuktyaivoktāḥ| indravajropendravajrāviracitatvādupajātivṛttam| yathā, "anantarāpāditalakṣmaśobhau pādau bhavetāṃ vividhairvikalpaiḥ| yāsāmimāvanyayatiprapañcau smṛtāḥ smṛtijñairupajātayastāḥ||" iti| sarvatraiva cātra tantre+anuṣṭubhā samānīpramāṇīvitānādibhedabhinnatayā viracanam| yatpunaravasarāntare vṛttāntaraviracanamiha tatsalakṣaṇaṃ vyañjayiṣyāmaḥ|

āyurvedaṃ vyācikhyāsuḥ śrīvāgbhaṭācāryaḥ prathamaślokeneṣṭadevatāṃ namaskaroti-rāgādirogāniti| sa cāpūrvavaidyaḥ| apūrvatvaṃ ca adbhutaśaktitvam| tacca jvarādivilakṣaṇānāṃ rogāṇāṃ ghātena| te ca rāgādayaḥ| śuddhasya cetaso rajastamobhyāṃ rañjanaṃ rāgaḥ| tadādayastanmūlāḥ kāmakrodhādayaḥ| jvarādivilakṣaṇatvamevāha-satatānuṣaktān, sarvakālamātmanā sambaddhān| nanu, jvarādayo+api kulodbhavāḥ evamityata āha-aśoṣakāyaprasṛtān, yāvantyātmanaḥ śarīrāṇi tāni sarvāṇyabhivyāpya sthitān| nanu, kulodbhavā api kuṣṭhārśomehādyā anantavyaktibhedenaivamityata āha-aśeṣān, sarvāneva yugapatpratidehaṃ sthitān| nanu, satkāryavādināṃ mate jvarādayo+api sūkṣmarūpeṇaivamityata āha-autsukyamohāratidān, autsukyam avicāryakāryapravṛttiḥ, moho vicārāśaktiḥ, aratiḥ asantoṣaḥ tā dadatyātmanaḥ samarpayantīti tathā| autsukyādīni svakāryaṇyadbhutāni samarpayantaḥ sarve sarvadeheṣu sarvadā ātmānaṃ kleśayantīti jvarādivilakṣaṇā eva rāgādirogāḥ| jaghāneti mokṣaśāstrapraṇayanena vadhopāyaṃ darśitavān| na tu svayaṃ hatavan| tathā hyadhunā kāmādyadarśanaṃ syāt||

atheti| athaśabdo+asminmaṅgalādhikārānantaryeṣu draṣṭavyaḥ| maṅgalādīnāṃ hi śāstrāṇāṃ tadadhyetṛṇāṃ niṣpratibandhā pravṛttirabhipretārthasādhanāya jāyate| athaśabdaścāyaṃ maṅgalārthaḥ| tathā coktam-"oṅkāraścāthaśabdaśca dvāvetau brahmaṇaḥ purā| kaṇṭhaṃ bhitvā viniryātau tenemau maṅgalau smṛtau||"iti| ato+adhikāre| āyuṣkāmīyaṃ śāstramadhikriyate yāvadata ūrdhvaṃ pratanyate ātantraparisamāptestatsarvamāyuṣkāmīyaṃ veditavyam| ata ānantarye ca| namaskārādanantaramāyuṣkāmahitaṃ vyākhyāsyāma iti| kathaṃ punarekasyaiva tantrakārasya vyākhyāsyāma iti bahuvacanaṃ yujyate| brūmaḥ| "asmado dvayośca" ityekatve+api bahuvacanavidhānādabhilaṣantīti| yuktamevātraikasminnapi bahuvacanam| āyuḥ śarīrendriyasatvātmasaṃyogaḥ| tathā ca muniḥ (ca. sū. a. 1|41)-| "śarīrendriyasattvātmasaṃyogo dhāri jīvitam| nityagaṃ cānubaddhaṃ ca paryāyairāyurucyate||" iti| etītyāyuḥ| santataṃ yātītyarthaḥ| evaṃvidhaṃ gatvarasvabhāvamapi hitāhāravihārasevādibhirahitavarjanena ca kathametat sthirībhavedityevaṃ kāmayante ye te āyuṣkāmāḥ| tebhyo hita āyuṣkāmīyaḥ| sa punarāyurvedāgamādiprakaraṇasamudāya āyuṣkāmayamānenetyādikaḥ| āyuṣkāmīya iti isusoḥ sāmarthye iti ṣādeśaḥ| tasmai hitamiti chaḥ| āyuṣkāmīyaśabdo+adhyāyaviśeṣaṇārtho nīlotpaladalavat| bahuṣvadhyāyeṣu satsu katamamadhyāyaṃ vyākhyāsyāma āyuṣkāmīyamiti| adhikṛto+adhyāyanāyetyadhyāyastaṃ vyākhyāsyāmaḥ vividhaprakāreṇa viśeṣeṇa vā kathayiṣyāmaḥ| āyuṣkāmaiḥ pūrvaṃ dṛṣṭatvādasyādhyāyasyāyuṣkāma iti saṃjñā| arthagatimadhikṛtyādhyāya iti nāma| tathā coktam| (ca. sū. a. 30|65)- "adhikṛtyeyamadhyāyanāmasaṃjñā pratiṣṭhitā" iti| tatra padasamudāyo vākyaṃ vākyasamudāyaḥ prakaraṇaṃ, prakaraṇasamudāyo yaḥ, so+adhyāyaḥ, adhyāyasamudāyaḥ sthānaṃ, sthānasamudāyastantramiti| viśabdo nānārthaḥ| āṅabhividhau| uttarākhyaścāyamalaṅkāraḥ| tasya hi lakṣaṇam| (kāvyālaṅkāre a, 7|93)- "uttaravacanaśravaṇādunnayanaṃ yatra pūrvavacanānāṃ kriyate taduttaraṃ syāt" ityādi| tato+anena vākyena śiṣyavacanamīdṛśamunnīyate| saṃsāre+asminnamī prāṇino nānārogānīkābhibhūtāstrātāramalabhamānāścaturvargād bhraśyante| tatko nu bhagavannatropāyaḥ syāditi kṛtapraśno guruḥ pratijajñe, athāta āyuṣkāmīyamadhyāyaṃ vyākhyāsyāma iti| atha śiṣyavacanānantaram| ato hetoryasmādayaṃ śiṣyaḥ śrutakulaśīlādisaṃpanno dhīmedhāguṇabhūṣaṇabhūtaśca| vi vividhaiḥ prakāraiḥ ā śiṣyabodhotpatteḥ| āyuṣkāmīyamadhyāyaṃ vyākhyāsyāmo varṇayiṣyāmaḥ| nanu kīdṛśaṃ tadvividhaprakāramākhyānam| brūmaḥ| padataḥ, tadarthataḥ, prayojanataḥ, codyataḥ, parihārataḥ, sambandhābhidheyataśca| padato yathā, āyuritīdaṃ padam| tadarthato yathā etītyāyuḥ| prayojanato yathā, atraiva dharmārthasukhasādhanam| codyato yathā, nanu kathametatkevalaṃ dharmārthasukhasādhanamiti vaktuṃ pāryate| yato+asyāyuṣaḥ karmaiva kevalaṃ dharmasādhanamiti vaktuṃ no pāryate| yato+asyāyuṣaḥ paripālanārthaṃ viśastāḥ kākagṛdhrabhāsādayo rājayakṣmacikitsite bhojyā ityuktam| abhakṣyāścaite| śrutismṛtyorabhakṣyatvenoktatvāt| evamabhakṣyabhakṣaṇāddhiṃsayā ca pāpayogaḥ| tadyogāccādharmasādhanaṃ na dharmasādhanamiti| parihārato yathā, atraivaṃ parihāro yajñādhikāriśarīranimittaṃ kākādīnāṃ viśasanaṃ bhakṣaṇaṃ vidhīyamānaṃ nādharmāya| itarathā krīḍārthaṃ kriyamāṇamadharmāyaiva| tathā ca kākādayo+api tatsādhanopayogāddharmeṇa tatphalena sambadhyante yajñiyā iva paśavaḥ| tadevamāyuṣo dharmasādhanatvaṃ sthitam| sambandhābhidheyau tūktāveva| nanu santyevānyānyapi maharṣipraṇītānyāyurvedatantrāṇi, kimanena tantreṇa kṛteneti| atra brūmaḥ| aparatantrāṇāṃ sāvadyatvādidamucyate| anyāni hi tantrāṇi sadoṣāṇi| tathā hi| yadetattāvadbhagavatā carakamuninā praṇītaṃ tantraṃ ratnākara iva ganbhīryātiśayayogāddurbodham| tasyāpi sadoṣatāṃ prakaṭayanti vācāṭāḥ| tathā hyādau tatsūtram| athāto dīrghañjīvitīyamadhyāyaṃ vyākhyāsyāma iti| atra dīrghañjīvitīya iti śāstrādāvayuktam| yato (ca. sū. a. 1 ślo. 3) dīrghaṃ jīvitamanvicchannityasyānukaraṇaṃ dīrghañjīvitamiti| so+asminnadhyāye+astīti chaḥ| tasyādhyāyānuvākayorluki sati dīrghañjīvitamiti prāpnoti| tadidamaviditaparamārthaśabdasvarūpāṇāṃ vacanam| tathāhi| adhyāyānuvākayorityādau sūtre vikalpena cāyaṃ lugiṣyata iti jagāda jayādityaḥ| tena lukaḥ pākṣikatvādatra luk na bhavatītyevaṃ yuktamuktamidam| dīrghaśabdena guṇo+abhidhīyate jīvitaśabdenāpi guṇa eva| tasmāddvayorapi guṇatvādādhārādheyabhāvo na yuktaḥ, yato guṇāśrayo nokta iti| tathā ca vaiśeṣikāḥ| nirguṇā guṇā iti| atha kālaśabdaṃ luptasvarūpaṃ nirdiśya dīrghajīvitīyaśabdo nirdiśyate tadā yuktamevaitat| tathā indriyopakramaṇīye+adhyāye chapratyayotpattiḥ kathamevaṃ vidhīyatāṃ yato+asminnadhyāya indriyopakramaṇaśabdo nāstyeva| evamapāmārgataṇḍulīye+apāmārgataṇḍulaśabdasyābhāvācca pratyayotpattirdurlabhā| tathā divyāmbhaso gāṅgasamudrabhedaḥ parīkṣā ca noktā| pratyuta tatra paṭhyate| (ca. sū. a. 27|191)- "jalamekavidhaṃ sarvaṃ patatyaindraṃ nabhastalāt| tatpatatpatitaṃ caiva deśakālāvapekṣate" iti| tathā nālikerodakasya guṇā noktāḥ| tathā, apakvakvathitakṣīrasya svarūpaviśeṣo noktaḥ| tathā kaṣāye kiyadauṣadhaṃ kimavaśeṣaṃ kvathanīyamityādi ca noktam| miśrake sneha evamabhyadhādasau| "trivṛttāṃ triphalāṃ dantīṃ daśamūlaṃ palonmitam| caturguṇaṃ jalaṃ dattvā" ityādi| tadeṣāmauṣadhānāṃ kiyanmānamapi salilenaitāvatā kīdṛśaṃ kimuta kvāthaniryāsāviti| tathā kvathitaśītatoyamapi kiyatā pākena pathyaṃ bhavatīti noktam| mudgo grāhīti ca noktam| tathā ca tatpāṭhaḥ (ca. sū. a. 27|22)-"kaṣāyamadhuro rūkṣaḥ śītaḥ pāke kaṭurlaghuḥ| viśadaḥ śleṣmapittaghno mudgāḥ sūpyottamo mataḥ||" iti| tathā vāstukādīnāṃ laghutvaṃ noktam| tathāca tatpāṭhaḥ (ca. sū. a. 27|85)- "pāṭhāsuṣāsaṭhīśākaṃ vāstukaṃ suniṣaṇṇakam| vidyādgrāhi tridoṣaghnaṃ bhinnavarcastu vāstukam||" iti| tathekṣuvarge, (ca. sū. a. 27|234)- " śaityātmasādānmādhuryātpauṇḍrakādvāṃśiko varaḥ" ityasāvabhyadhāt| pauṇḍrakaśca vāṃśikādvara iti suprasiddhametat| atra mativaibhavādbhaṭṭārakahariścandrau vyākhyāviśeṣamavocatām| yathā pauṇḍrakādvāṃśiko+avara iti| evaṃ caitadupapannameva| tadevamātreyasyāpi tantre yato bahavo doṣā udbhāvyante, tataḥ kā gaṇanā tantrāntarāṇām| tathā vedotpattiriti saṃjñā tantre+asminsadoṣatvānna kṛtā| tathā hi| āyuṣo veda āyurvedaḥ, tasyotpattirāyurvedotpattiriti bhavitavyam| atra kecidāhuḥ| āyuḥśabdalopaṃ kṛtveha nirdeśaḥ kṛtaḥ| evamapi sati lopastāvadamaṅgalaḥ| so+apyāyuṣaḥ sa ca śāstrādau| ityanyāyyaivaiṣā saṃjñā| kiṃca vedotpattirityetadapi tāvadvaktuṃ na yujyate, nityatvādasya vedasya| nityo hyayamāyurvedaḥ| āyuḥsantānādinityatvāt| tathā hyāyuḥsaṃtānaḥ| sarvaprāṇisaṃvedyaśarīrāparaśarīrago manaḥprabandhanityatayā lokaḥ| amunā guruṇā chātrāyopadiṣṭaṃ śāstramidamiti| sata evopadeśāvabodhau staḥ| tasmānnāvabodhopadeśāvasyotpattikāraṇamityato+api hetorvedotpattisaṃjñetyayuktā| iti saṃjñānāṃ sāvadyatvaṃ nirūpya niravadyāyuṣkāmīyasaṃjñā hi tantre kṛtā| yayoccāritamātrayaivā+aśeṣastantrārthaḥ prakāśyate| pratisthānaṃ ca yo+adhyāyaḥ prathamastatsaṃjñayā sthānārthaḥ| anye ca ye+adhyāyāstantre+asmiṃstatsaṃjñābhiryathāsvatantramarthajātaṃ prakāśayanta iti|
idamidānīṃ pṛchyate tantrakāraḥ| yadasmiṃstantre kiṃciducyate sma bhavadbhistatsvabuddhiparikalpitamuta netyāha| - itiśabda evamarthe| yathā iti ha sma, tānāha| haśabdo+anukampāyām| brūdhātoḥ sma upapade bhūtānadyatanaparokṣe 'laṭ sme' iti laṭa āhādeśaḥ| atrerapatyamātreyaḥ| 'itaścāniñaḥ' iti ḍhak| ātreya ādiryeṣāṃ dhanvantariprabhṛtīnāṃ ta evam| mahāntaśca te ṛṣayaśca maharṣayaḥ| mahatvaṃ tajjñānātiśayayogāt| tenāyamartho+anena kāraṇenānukampayā, na tu phalākāṅkṣayā, bhagavanta ātreyādayo maharṣayo+abruvan| nāsmābhiḥ svamatiparikalpitaṃ kiñcidapyatroktam| kevalaṃ dūtasandeśavacananyāyena yugānurūpaḥ kramamātro+anyathā kṛta ityarthaḥ| tathā cāsyaivasaṅgrahe- (sū. a. 1) "na mātrāmātramapyatra kiñcidāgamavarjitam| te+arthāḥ sa granthasandarbhaḥ saṃkṣepāya kramo+anyathā" iti| tadevamāgamaprāmāṇyamasya tantrasyetyuktaṃ bhavati|
Āyurvedarasāyana
āyuṣkāmīyamadhyāyaṃ vyākhyātuṃ pratijānīte atheti| atha sveṣṭadevatānamaskārānantaram| ato hetorvyākhyeyaḥ| yato+ayamāyurvedo vyādhipratīkāravyākhyānam| āyurvairiṇo hi vyādhayaḥ| vyākhyā ca sāmānyaviśeṣābhyāṃ saṃkṣepavistarābhyāṃ ca kṛtā sugrahā bhavati| tatrādau vyādhipratīkārasya sāmānyasaṃkṣepavyākhyārthamayamadhyāyaḥ, āyuṣkāmahitatvācca āyuṣkāmīyaḥ| nanvevaṃ cetsarve+api āyuṣkāmīyāḥ| satyaṃ, kintu prathamo+ayamadhyāyo maṅgalārthā ceyaṃ saṃjñā| maṅgalādīni ca śāstrāṇi prathanta ityasyeyaṃ saṃjñā kṛtā| anyeṣāṃ tu vyākhyeyārthānurūpā dinacaryādisaṃjñāḥ kariṣyati| ā0 ra0- ātmakṛtiṃ pramāṇayati-iti heti| prāmāṇyaṃ cāptavākyatvāt| āptāścātreyādayo maharṣayaḥ| te ca, iti ha evameva, āhuḥ sma uktavantaḥ, yathā vayaṃ vakṣyāmaḥ| tena vayamapyāptāḥ|

āyurvedayati jñāpayati prakṛtijñānarasāyanadūtāriṣṭādyupadeśādityāyurvedaḥ| tasyopadeśā āyurvedopadeśāḥ| upadiśyanta āyurvedārthā upapattibhirityupadeśā āyurvedatantrāṇi| teṣu paramādaraḥ pāṭhāvabodhānuṣṭhānarūpa utkṛṣṭo yatnaḥ kāryaḥ| āyurvedopadeśeṣviti bahuvacananirdeśādayamartho bodhyate| bahuṣvāyurvedatantreṣu yatnaḥ kāryaḥ| anekāyurvedāvalokanāddhi cikitsāyāṃ vaidyasya na manāgapi sandeho jāyate| kiṃ kurvatā puruṣeṇa-āyuḥ kāmayamānena jīvitamabhilaṣatā| kimbhūtamāyuḥ, dharmārthasukhasādhanam| dhriyate loko+aneneti dharmaḥ| arthyate yācyata ityarthaḥ| sukhaṃ dvividham, tādāttvikamātyantikaṃ ca| tādātvikaṃ kiyatkālāntarāsthāyitvātsukhāvabhāsaṃ, na paramārthataḥ sukham| tathā coktam- (ca. sū. a. 28/37) 'tādātvasukhasaṃjñeṣu bhāveṣvajño+anurajyate'| iti| tadetatsaṃjñāmātreṇa sukhaṃ na tvatyantamiti pradarśayituṃ sukhasaṃjñeṣviti muninoktam| ātyantikaṃ sukhaṃ mokṣākhyaṃ, yatra na duḥkhānāṃ śleṣaḥ| teṣāṃ sādhanamupāyo dharmārthasukhasādhanam|

prekṣāvatpravṛttyarthaṃ prayojanādhikāriṇau darśayati-āyuriti| prayojanaṃ cāyuḥ| tasya ca prayojanatvaṃ dharmārthasukhasādhanatvāt| sukhaṃ kāmo mokṣaśca| ata eva yaḥ āyuḥ kāmayate so+atra adhikārī| tena ca, āyurvedopadeśeṣvasmadvākyeṣu, paramatyartham, ādaro vidheyaḥ pāṭhāvabodhānuṣṭhānairyatitavyam|

brahmetyādi| brahmā āyuṣo vedaṃ smṛtvā prajāpatiṃ dakṣamajigrahad avābodhayat| smṛtvetyanenaitadgamayati brahmaṇaḥ smartṛtvamevātra na kartṛtvam| nityatvādāyurvedasya| nityatvaṃ cāsya prāk pratyapādi| graherṇyantasyātra buddhyarthatvāt prajāpatiśabdasya gatibuddhītyādinā karmasaṃjñā| sa prajāpatiraśvināvajigrahat| tau sahasrākṣamindramajigrahatāmiti vacanavipariṇāmena sambandhaḥ| sa śakro+atriputrādikān munīn bodhayāmāsa| atriputra ātreya ādiryeṣāṃ dhanvantarinimikāśyapādīnāṃ ta evam| te cātreyādayo+agniveśādikānajigrahan| te tvagniveśādayaḥ ṣaṭ pṛthak pratyekaṃ tantrāṇi śāstrāṇyagniveśabheḍajātūkarṇaparāśarahārītakṣārapāṇināmābhidheyāni tantrāṇi tenire vistāritavantaścakruḥ| tantryante dhāryanta āyurvedārthā ebhiriti tantrāṇi|
