Adhyāya 3, Āhnika 2, Sūtra 3
sādhyasamatvād ahetuḥ // 3.2.3 //
yathā khalu nityatvaṃ buddheḥ sādhyam evaṃ pratyabhijñānam apīti/ kiṃ kāraṇam? cetanadharmasya karaṇe 'nupapattiḥ/ puruṣadharmaḥ khalv ayaṃ jñānaṃ darśanam upalabdhir bodhaḥ pratyayaḥ adhyavasāya iti/
812 cetano hi pūrvajñātam arthaṃ pratyabhijānāti, tasyaitasmād dhetor nityatvaṃ yuktam iti/ karaṇacaitanyābhyupagame tu cetanasvarūpaṃ vacanīyaṃ nānirdiṣṭasvarūpam ātmāntaraṃ śakyam astīti pratipattum/ jñānaṃ ced buddher antaḥkaraṇasyābhyupagamyate cetanasyedānīṃ kiṃ svarūpaṃ ko dharmaḥ kiṃ tattvam? jñānena ca buddhau vartamānenāyaṃ cetanaḥ kiṃ karotīti? cetayate iti cet na, jñānād arthāntaravacanam — puruṣaś cetayate buddhir jānātīti nedaṃ jñānād arthāntaram ucyate, cetayate jānīte buddhyate paśyati upalabhate ity eko 'yam artha iti/ buddhir jñpayatīti cet addhā — jānīte puruṣo buddhir jñāpayatīti satyam etat/ evaṃ cābhyupagame jñānaṃ puruṣasyeti siddhaṃ bhavati na buddher antaḥkaraṇasyeti/
813 pratipuruṣaṃ ca śabdāntaravyavasthāpratijñāne pratiṣedhahetuvacanam/ yaś ca pratijānīte — kaścit puruṣaś cetayate, kaścid buddhyate, kaścid upalabhate, kaścit paśyatīti; puruṣāntarāṇi khalv imāni cetano boddhopalabdhā draṣṭeti naikasyaite dharmā iti atra kaḥ pratiṣedhahetur iti? arthasyābheda iti cet samānam/ abhinnārthā ete śabdā iti tatra vyavasthānupapattir ity evaṃ cen manyase, samānaṃ bhavati — puruṣaś cetayate buddhir jānīte ity atrāpy artho na bhidyate tatrobhayoś cetanatvād anyataralopa iti/ yadi punar budhyate 'nayeti bodhanaṃ buddhiḥ mana evocyate tac ca nityam,
814 astv etad evam, na tu manaso viṣayapratyabhijñānān nityatvam/ dṛṣṭaṃ hi karaṇabhede jñātur ekatvāt pratyabhijñānaṃ `savyadṛṣṭasyetareṇa pratyabhijñānād' iti/
815 cakṣurvat pradīpavac ca; pradīpāntaradṛṣṭasya pradīpāntareṇa pratyabhijñānam iti/ tasmāj jñātur ayaṃ nityatve hetur iti//3//
